RALPH'S PICK OF THE FRINGE

Fed up with trawling through the programme? Give up! Let someone else do the choosing for you!

Ralph Oswick, Artistic Director of Natural Theatre Company, offers his totally biased, opinionated and utterly partisan pick of all that's best in Bath Fringe Festival 2007.

Your own personal programmer! All events bookable through the Festivals Box Office 01225 463362 unless otherwise stated.

AMSTERDAM UNDERGROUND COMEDY COLLECTIVE

I have no shame in blatantly plugging my mate Nick's evening of Dutch comedians. These guys are really funny and justly famous in their home country. Is it in English you ask? Of course, you ninny, they're Dutch; they speak better English than we do. Catch them at the Lakeside Suite at Widcombe Social Club (fabulously decorated by yours truly).
8pm Thurs 31st May
More info at www.widcombe.net

ROMEO AND JULIET AS PERFORMED BY THE LORD CHAMBERLAIN'S MEN

As usual, gratifyingly expensive (even dearer than the White Wine Arts Trail) at £12.50 but judging by last year's performance, well worth the money! All male professional cast. 3pm and 7.30pm Sat 2nd June in the Bath Botanical Gardens, Royal Victoria Park

………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

Two brilliant things for kids:

THE KURDISH GARDEN: An amazing experience for 4-8 year olds set on a high-tech sensor-sensitive carpet. Sat 2nd June 11.30am and 2.30pm at the egg (Theatre Royal Box Office 01225 448844). Also on other days, see Fringe Prog.

COWBOY ENCAMPMENT WEEKEND: A living history event celebrating the life and legend of the American cowboy. Tickets included with grounds admission ticket. Sat and Sun 2-3rd June 12 noon to 5pm American Museum, Claverton, near Bath

REMOTE CONTROL PERFORMED BY KILTER THEATRE COMPANY

A fascinating site specific theatre experience using the backcloth of the partly overgrown Abbey Cemetery, Prior Park Road, Widcombe. 1st -3rd June and 7th- 10th June 8pm on all days plus 3pm Sat and Sun.
Worth it for the hauntingly beautiful cemetery alone if you have never been there. Kilter is sponsored by The Debut Project which helps to set up new outdoor performance in BANES.

I'm not going to recommend anything at the SPIEGELTENT as you all now know (at last, after all my moaning at you over the years) where it is. And you know there are bucket loads of fabulous things on and as it's only here until 3rd June get on down there!

BEDLAM SUNDAY:

Lashings of bonkers street theatre! Last year it was hard to find, but licence permitting it's all sorted! Sunday 3rd June 1pm-5pm Saw Close (opposite Theatre Royal) and in the surrounding streets. Mad or what? Mad and what? What? Mad you lot, what?

And finally, permit me to promote my own event (the very purpose of this column) ….

BONBON'S BIG NITE

A scintillating evening of stand-up comedy and music promoted, as all Bonbon Cabarets are, by my good self and my colleague Nick Steel. It's so good this time, we've moved upstairs to the big room at Widcombe Social Club which is proving to be THE fringe venue to be seen at. So retro my dears!
7.45 for 8pm Thurs 7th June.
Getting tickets couldn't be easier darlings for as well as being available at the Festivals Box Office 01225 463362, one can book in a couple of clicks from the Fringe online programme, or at www.widcombe.net
And as it's a HUGE venue, there's bound to be tickets available for ready money on the door.
And even though we've gone bigger this week, it's still only £10.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………….

P.S. I suppose I'd better mention my cabaret rival and old mate and sex god Bill Smarme who is presenting BILL SMARME'S PICK'N'MIX direct from the Smarme's Arms at The Lakeside Suite, Widcombe Social Club 8.30pm Tues 5th and Weds 6th June.
At eight quid it's cheaper than Bonbon Big Nite…but there'll be a reason for that, won't there?
