Event Title: BATH CHILDREN’S ART FESTIVAL
Name of Act:
Venue: BANDSTAND, ROYAL VICTORIA PARK
Doors Open:
Show Starts: 11:00:00
Blurb: It is most unfortunate for the rest of us, but
everything every other festival and celebration does, Bath Childrens Arts
Festival goes and does it too, but better, and strictly for the under-12s.
Dubbed "Glastonbury for Kids", this year's programme, over two
days in Victoria Park (bandstand site), will take participants into a
Brave New World, but doubtless a much more pleasant one than Huxley was
thinking of, or even that in which the rest of us and Mr Blair are living.
It'll have passports like Walcot Nation Day, big name shows like the
grownups' Fringe, and zones like that wotsit in Greenwich - Peace,
Creation, Science, Performance, Body, and Food. What's more fun again is
that unlike most adults' festivals, this one's about doing things
yourself, whether they're arts, crafts, performing or adventuring. Brave
New Additions include the Infernal Machine with Bath inventors Bob Race
& Tom Nesbitt, a Labyrinth of Expectations, the making of a Chinese
dragon (2000 - Year of the Dragon) & wishing flags, a millenium mural
and statue, hiphop/graffiti art, a Temple of Sound, and a huge circular
climbing wall. There will also be an area devoted to the older kids with
dream catchers, african dance, astro drama, DJ skills & singing. Among
old favourites you'll find a clowning workshop, circus skills, pottery and
stone carving, samba workshops, face painting, costumes, and of course the
traditional procession. The peace garden will host a peace flame and an
oracle, you are invited to bring and light a candle for peace. There are
continuous performances from the likes of Bash Street Theatre and every
kind of entertainer, as well as the numerous stars among the kids
themselves. ***Due to the high demand last year we have provided extra
facilities and fun this time - Shakespeare's Miranda would indeed marvel
at it, and so will you, whatever age you are. 11am-5pm
